I don’t think website breadcrumbs will ever be outdated.
Even though large online platforms like Facebook, Google and YouTube do not use this feature, breadcrumbs are still considered to this day to be an extremely helpful design feature for most web users. This is because a breadcrumb trail helps the user navigate through the site with ease, without any complications and without taking away from the design. As well as this, it also reduces the total amount of clicks that the user has to do, by allowing them to travel through parent and child categories with ease and simplicity.
However, breadcrumbs cannot replace menus as this would reduce the functionality of the site and makes it more difficult for the user to get around. The key thing to remember is to make it as simple as possible for a user to navigate your website – breadcrumbs are a key part of this because they are a visual build up of the pages the user has visited.
